Amazon Prime Will Become More Expensive: What Can You Do to Keep the Lower Price?

It seems like every week, another subscription service raises its prices. Amazon Prime is the most recent addition, but if you’re crafty, you can lock in a lower price for a little longer.

During an earnings call, Amazon announced that the price of Amazon Prime would be raised from $119 to $139 per year. The monthly plan price will increase from $12.99 to $14.99. Those may not appear to be significant increases, but when combined with everything else that has recently risen, they begin to add up in a big way.

Fortunately, there is a way to get another year of Amazon Prime for the lower $119 price. All you have to do is purchase Prime as a gift. Set your Prime subscription to not renew once you’ve obtained it. To do so, go to your Account, then click Prime, and then Manage My Membership. Once there, you can configure your account so that it does not renew automatically.

You must do this before the price increase takes effect on February 18, 2022.

After that, simply wait until your current subscription expires before redeeming the Prime gift you purchased for your own account. You’ll now be locked into Prime for another year at $119 rather than $139. You’ll have to pay full price the next time, but doing so will save you $20.

Furthermore, as reported by CNBC, you can get the most expensive Metro by T-Mobile cell phone plan with Amazon Prime included. If you’re looking for a new cell phone service, this could be a great way to get Prime without spending more money.

If none of these options work for you, you can cancel Amazon Prime and receive a refund if you meet certain criteria. The refund is only valid if you haven’t used your membership yet, but you can cancel at any time.
